Evaluation of My
Foundation Portfolio:
Cover:
My media product is more of a typical cover, having a
similar layout to most other magazines (Such as the masthead being at the top
of the page) and having content based of off other school magazines that we researched
and analysed. This has been done so that people recognise it as a well thought
out magazine and since people will be used to this type of layout, it won’t
shock anyone. My cover also follows the school’s colour scheme. I used this
colour scheme so that people could easily identify which school the magazine
was associated with. The photo used for my cover is slightly different to most
other magazines of this type. This is because I have put him towards one side,
whereas most other magazines have the photo in the centre looking straight
ahead.
My cover represents the sixth former's as smart, well dressed
and cheerful in the picture. This is to make my target audiences of students
and parents think well of the school and the magazine, which may persuade them
to buy the magazine. My cover suggests that the audience will think well of my
magazine and the school it’s representing.
My magazine should be published in shops and given out
freely in Biddulph High School with ads in to pay for the printing and other
things. I would do this because the target audience is parents and young adults/students
(sixth former's) and giving the magazine out for free in school will mean that
the sixth former's all get it and so do their parents. It could also be published digitally but it
would probably not reach the target audience very well using this method.
The audience of my product is students and parents since
these are the people who will most likely pick up or receive this magazine.
To get the target audiences attention, I am going to have
the magazine handed out for free in the school. However in a shop my magazine
will grab the reader’s attention using interesting headlines, bright colours to
catch your eye and a small bit of advertising. The picture can also attract the
attention of readers. My headlines use exclamation points to portray
importance, grabbing the reader’s attention and making them want to read it.
I have learnt how to use blogger and the meaning of PLACES
(Props, Location, Actors, Costume, Expressions and Setting).
I feel I have learnt what covers will need for to get the
audience’s attention and how to make them look good.
Contents Page:
My contents page is a pretty typical contents page. The
layout is very similar to other contents pages that I've seen. However the
picture I used for this page was not very similar to the other content pages
I've seen. Because of the way I have made the contents page people will easily
recognise it as a contents page making it easy to use. My contents page also
follows the colour scheme set up by the cover page.
My target audience is students (mainly pupils of Biddulph
High School) and their parents, the information on the contents page links to
things from Biddulph High School which is why steered more towards people who
are either going there or want to go there. The picture used on the contents
page is of a student who attends the sixth form at Biddulph High; other
students will see this and maybe be able to relate to the person in the
picture.
My magazine should be published in shops and given out
freely in Biddulph High School with ads in to pay for the printing and other
things. I would do this because the target audience is parents and young
adults/students (sixth former's) and giving the magazine out for free in school
will mean that the sixth former's all get it and so do their parents. It could also be published digitally but it
would probably not reach the target audience very well using this method.
The audience for this product would be students from
Biddulph High looking to go into Sixth form or other students looking to go
into sixth form as well as the parents of these students.
To get the attention of my target audience I would have to
use my front cover.
